The major cause of death
in Akitas is cancer, though that is the major cause of death in all
canines of all breeds. My latest book,
Akita-Treasure of Japan, Volume
II does an in-depth study of possible causes, the various types
and treatments, plus recommended preventative measures. After
the book was published in 2002, I learned about Neoplasene which is
not mentioned in my book. For that reason, and because too
many Akitas will be diagnosed with osteosarcoma and hemangiosarcoma,
I am adding this page to the ARSA website.
