These Nutritional Sheets were made available at this
website a few years ago. They are still accurate but more in-depth
information on the diseases, diagnostics, treatments and nutritional
alternatives can be found in "Akita-Treasure of Japan, Volume
II, a 500 page book available at
www.akitabook.com.
The supplement
programs and a natural diet have helped many Akitas. The programs
are formulated to regulate immune system response, diminish
inflammatory processes and supply nutrients necessary for
stabilization. The supplements may be given with food and are safe
to be used with veterinary drugs. By all means print out the list
and refer with your veterinarian.
Use capsules instead of tablets wherever possible.
Where no amount is indicated, follow the directions on the bottle.
Many of these supplements can be purchased in combination. For
example, milk thistle and dandelion can be purchased as a combined
product. Whenever possible use combination products. It
may take some time to read labels but it's time well invested.
Strained baby food meat is a great way to give
supplements. Mix the meat with the pills and scoop onto your finger.
Everything should be given twice daily unless noted.
If you feed kibble consider switching to a raw food diet—a
thorough discussion of natural foods is included in the book along
with a discussion of each herb.
